The Printer Guys Seek to Light Your Path to the Future

SONARAY

DASCOM Americas continues to announce new printer products, new space to build a headquarters for the Americas, and as many have already heard, the company is also starting down the path of commercial LED lighting.

You might wonder how or why people who are involved in printers as their legacy, are involved, or soon will be, in lighting.  At least I find the story compelling.

SONARAY, the name for the LED lighting solutions that are manufactured and sold by DASCOM already in China and Singapore (and have field trial sites going in Venezuela), will be offered in the U.S. just a little farther down the road.  Today, the company is undergoing the certification process for the lighting with hopes to be selling later this year.

In speaking with DASCOM Americas, they are quick to point out that today printers are the “bread and butter” products for the company, and there is NO INTENTION to exit that market place.  In fact, DASCOM continues to make new printers with lofty goals of gaining even more market share in vertical segments of the printer space.

So, you might wonder why the company is so interested in LED lighting?

In doing some independent research on the matter, this writer found some VERY interesting facts on LED lighting in general.  For example, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that a rapid adoption of LED lighting in the U.S. by 2027 could deliver savings of $265 billion.  That’s “billion” with a “b.”  The same research source also indicated that a rapid move to LED lighting by 2027 could eliminate the need for 40 new power plants and chop the demand for lighting electricity by some 33%.  Those are HUGE numbers.

DASCOM Americas tells us they will be focused on industrial and commercial lighting and really believe they are on to something big with SONARAY (a name that itself has a great story to be covered in another blog).  They say that a key for them is the fact that SONARAY products use only the best in raw materials such as CITILED LED chip sets from Citizen Japan.  They also believe that since they design and build “a total lighting solution” themselves, they are in a great position to leverage their business approach, quality, and flexibility against more well-known brands in the lighting industry.

In the coming weeks, we’ll use this blog to tell you more about SONARAY and where DASCOM Americas sees LED lighting relative to its future growth.

For now, let’s just say that the future of lighting with SONARAY seems like a very bright idea!

DASCOM Enters POS Market with DT-230 Point of Sale Printer

DT-230

PRESS RELEASE FROM DASCOM Americas…..

(April 30, 2013)  DASCOM® Americas, a recognized leader in complete business printing solutions and marketer of Tally® and TallyDASCOM® serial matrix, specialty, and thermal printers today announced the first in a line of new direct thermal POS printers, the DT-230.

The DT-230 POS offers reliability, precision and performance in a small footprint, where space is limited.

The printer combines a high speed print mechanism (rated at 260mm/s, 10.2 in/s) with a host of features including one hand media loading, a heavy duty standard cutter, and an array of flexible interfaces including Wi-Fi.

Of course the unit also supports ESC POS emulation and is designed to be the perfect complement to complete systems geared around retail point of sale applications.

Chuck Ward, DASCOM® Americas’ Product Manager says of the DT-230; “The DT-230 is the perfect printer for many vertical industries including retail, hospitality, food service, and healthcare among others.  The printer is very intuitive to use, offers a host of features, and has a robust design and wealth of connectivity options.  The choice of either wired or wireless interfaces also allows the DT-230 to be installed in the most difficult space configurations and external power supplies make it easy to inventory this POS printer for operation in all parts of the world.”

Juan Vidaurrazaga, Vice President of Sales, adds; “With a rated print speed of 260mm/s and printing at 203 DPI versus many in this product class that only print 180 DPI, the DT-230 not only has exceptional print speed, but unmatched clarity of print.  One other great aspect of the unit’s print speed is that it also prints graphics as well as text at the very high speed so logos and barcodes don’t slow this printer down.  We think our customers will be greatly impressed that a printer in this class can deliver so many features and such flexibility and performance relative to print speed.  Usually these types of features and speed are reserved for more expensive POS models.”

The printer will be available through a network of regional and national resellers.
